SYMBOLS, RITUALS, AND THE HEALTH OF OUR SOUL - 03/09/15
Over the course of 2000 years, the Christian Church has developed a sophisticated language of symbols and rituals to effectively minister to our soul. A healthy soul has tremendous benefits for our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Unfortunately, most people—including those who regularly go to church—don’t understand the full meaning behind those symbols and rites. In some churches, many of those symbols and rites have become neglected or abandoned. Additionally, our society, with all its materialism and entertainments, has distracted us from giving appropriate attention to our soul’s condition. Jesus asked,
“What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Matthew 16:26).
Join us for an informative and inspiring discussion on Christian symbols and rituals, and how they impact the state of our soul. Each week we will thoroughly explore a spiritual object, ceremony, or discipline, and examine together its value for improving our lives. We will specifically address:
✜ What is our soul and how does it operate within us?
✜ What is “soul-sickness” and how does it impact society?
✜ What is the meaning of the symbols and rituals used by the ancient Church?
✜ Where can we go to get access to spiritual tools that mend and strengthen our souls?
✜ What can we practically do to increase our health, joy, and sense of fulfillment?
