The Kursk Root Icon being carried in procession followed by 150,000 Orthodox faithful.
With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan HILARION of New York and Eastern America, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, and His Eminence Archbishop KYRILL of San Francisco and Western America, the Miracleworking Kursk Root Icon of the Theotokos will be brought to Hawaii from December 28, 2012 to January 2, 2013.
This is the first time the Kursk Icon has been to Hawaii in over twenty years. It is a great blessing and an honor for the Orthodox Christian faithful living in Hawaii. The Kursk Icon will be accompanied by her guardian as she visits the three Orthodox communities in the Hawaiian Islands. She will visit the OCA mission parish on the Big Island and then will be brought to Honolulu to visit the Russian and Greek Orthodox churches there.
The history of the Kursk Icon is an ancient story, the Icon itself is purported to be over 700 years old and throughout the years God has worked innuerable miracles through this Icon, including the healing of a young Prokhor of near death from his childhood disease (young Prokhor grew up to become St. Seraphim of Sarov, one of the greatest saints in the last thousand years of the Holy Orthodox Catholic Church)
We are truly honored to have this ancient and highly venerated and sacred Icon come to us. The Kursk Icon has been venerated by millions of faithful throughout history, and now She is coming to our small communities, God is continually blessing us with these gifts.
O Most Holy Mother of God, save us!
