Please help save Russian Fort Elizabeth on Kauai!

The Russian Fort Elizabeth, located in beautiful Waimea on the Island of Kauai was built in 1817.  It was one of three Russian forts on the island and purportedly contained a small Orthodox chapel.  The Fort was built on the initiative of Dr. George Anton Schaffer and King Kaumuali'i.  It was later abandoned and disassembled.  In 2017, a Russian-American symposium took place on Kauai and spoke of the need to restore the Old Russian Fort Elizabeth to it's old prestige, similar to the Russian Fort Ross in California.

A Pannikhida service was also chanted by Father Athanasius Kone at the site of the old Fort.

In time of growing Anti-Russian sentiment, there is a movement to change the name of the Russian Fort Elizabeth to a Hawaiian name in order to "get the locals involved."  Unfortunately, this will erase part of the history of the Hawaiian Islands.

Please consider signing the online petition HERE

This petition will be delivered to the Hawaii State Department of Land and Natural Resources and Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard.

The Congress of Russian Americans have also established a petition, it can be accessed here:
